Colour
Colour hits hard from a distance and demands craft up close: saturated pigments that have to settle well into the skin, and contrast planned so the piece still reads once the ink matures. Light tones are the ones that suffer most from sun and time, so the design leans on firm shadows that hold everything together even as the colour loses some of its shine. Here colour takes two paths: neo-Japanese, with its reds and teals, and painted illustration — creatures that come from no photograph, worked like an oil painting, with brush texture and burning highlights.
