Tiwaz names the god Týr, who put his hand in the wolf Fenrir's mouth so the other gods could bind him, knowing it would cost him the hand. The Icelandic rune poem calls it the one-handed god, keeper of the temple: the rune of honorable sacrifice, the courage that accepts a cost known in advance.
